UGC Creator Guides

120 guides

This side of the blog is written for the person making the content. Not for brands, and not for influencers chasing follower growth — for creators who want to be paid to produce content other people run.

It is a distinct job, and most advice aimed at creators misses that. UGC is closer to freelance production than to influencing: brands buy the content and the right to use it, which is why a small account can earn well and a large one has no automatic advantage. Once that lands, the questions that matter change. Not "how do I grow", but what to charge, what a fair usage clause looks like, and which niches are actually commissioning.

The guides are grouped by where people get stuck. Getting started covers the first deal when you have no portfolio and no track record. Rates and pricing covers the number and how to defend it. Niches covers where the work is and what each type of brand briefs for.

Where we quote money, it comes from live listings rather than from surveys, and we say when a niche is quiet instead of implying every category is equally busy.

Some of this contradicts the standard creator advice, deliberately. Growing a following is not a prerequisite. Expensive equipment is not a prerequisite. Committing permanently to one niche is not a prerequisite. What actually correlates with getting paid is duller: a few pieces of relevant sample work, the ability to read a brief and hit it, and applying consistently for longer than feels reasonable.

The guides assume you want this to be work rather than a hobby, so they cover the unglamorous parts too — what a usage clause commits you to, when a brief is worth turning down, and how to price a revision round so it does not quietly eat the margin on the whole job.
