Job Description
Looking for someone who's chronically online in the bookish world: BookTok, Bookstagram, BookTube, BookThreads, Reddit & publishing news. Each week you'll find the stories readers are talking about & log them in a shared Google Sheet. The research feeds commentary videos & an upcoming reader community, so I want stories with a hook, not just announcements. HOW HIRING WORKS I'm hiring 2-3 people to start, then keeping the best fit for ongoing work. Your screening answers decide who makes the 2-3, so show me what you'd find. WHAT YOU'LL LOOK FOR - Social: viral posts, emerging trends, tropes taking off, overlooked books getting attention, creator & author drama, fandom debates, reader frustrations - Publishing: author announcements, book deals & acquisitions, new imprints, adaptations & casting, publisher & agent news, industry publications - Controversies: AI-generated knockoffs, copyright & plagiarism disputes, anything that shows how the industry really works - Opinion: Substack & Medium pieces worth reacting to - Community: questions readers keep asking, recurring frustrations with book discovery, underrated recs, good discussion prompts WHERE TikTok, Instagram, YouTube, Threads, Reddit, Substack, Medium, author & publisher accounts, newsletters and industry news sites. There are too many accounts to watch one by one, so use a mix: account lists, hashtag & keyword searches, newsletters, publisher sites and industry publications. Build and refine your list of go-to sources as you go. WHAT YOU DELIVER 30-70 entries a week in a shared Google Sheet. One row per story: - Story: what happened or what people are discussing, in a sentence or two - Source: a direct link to the original post, article or announcement - Date: when it was posted - Context: what's happening behind it - Why it matters: why readers, authors or the industry would care - Verification: what's confirmed, what's disputed, what still needs checking (or NA) Gossip is welcome. Made-up gossip isn't. Trace every story to its original source & label allegations as allegations. YOU'RE A FIT IF YOU - Live in bookish internet culture - Can tell a real story from an ordinary announcement - Can trace a screenshot or rumour back to the original post - Write short, clear summaries in excellent English - Explain why something matters instead of just collecting links - Work on your own without reminders - Bonus: you know romance, romantasy, YA or New Adult PAY $100 for every 70 entries
